Five pirates boarded a drifting gas carrier about 55nm west of Corisco island in the Gulf of Guinea, the International Maritime Bureau reported. Crew raised the alarm and blew the ship's horn, which resulted in the pirates escaping, said the International Maritime Bureau (IMB).

The master reported that there were also a few tugboats and unlit fishing vessels without an automatic identification system in the vicinity. Corisco island is situated 29km off the coast, southwest of the Rio Muni estuary, which defines the border between Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
