Panalpina's most recent Carbon Disclosure Project score has significantly improved on the previous year's score. The better score underpins Panalpina's continuous effort to improve the management and disclosure of overall greenhouse gas emissions.

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has awarded Panalpina a score of 85 points (out of 100) for its reported figures from full-year 2013 " a 10-point increase on an already solid full-year 2012 performance in total greenhouse gas emissions, emission reductions, and procedures for managing and reporting on emissions. The new score recognizes improvements in disclosures of emissions and increased transparency regarding the systems and processes designed to impact greenhouse gas emissions.

CDP is the world's largest voluntary disclosure program for corporations, making its data invaluable for benchmarking and investment decisions. The international, not-for-profit organization provides a global system for companies to measure, manage, share and disclose energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions information.

To receive such a greatly improved score validates the programs that we have put in place to lower our greenhouse gas emissions and those of our customers. It also shows how we are doing with respect to our competitors, says Lindsay Zingg, global head of quality, health, safety and environment at Panalpina. Moreover, many of our customers also report to the CDP and thus are also able to observe Panalpina's improvement in this area.

Panalpina has participated in the project since 2009, and since then, has consistently shown improvements in its scores. Over the past few years Panalpina has implemented data collection procedures and systems such as ISO14001 and a new advanced CO2 calculation tool for customers to measure and manage greenhouse gas emissions.

Panalpina also hopes to inspire its global team with Environmental Day, a new, annual company-wide event that began this year and was designed to raise environmental awareness and support for the company's PanGreen sustainability program. On this day, Panalpina offices worldwide present the company's newest environment- and sustainability-related initiatives and awareness campaigns in order to engage all employees in the topic. With company-wide initiatives like this, along with optimized data collection systems and procedures, Panalpina intends to lower its greenhouse gas emissions and those of its customers in the long-term.
