Budapest Airport: New flights all year round
Budapest Airport will welcome a new airline on the first day of the winter schedule. The 35th carrier to operate to BUD will be the recently established Georgian company MyWay Airlines, which will commute between Tbilisi and Budapest three times a week. The carrier currently has two 170-seater Boeing B737-800 aircraft, and compiled its schedule to Budapest in such a way that it should be convenient for long weekends and for business travelers alike. This will be the second direct flight to Georgia from Budapest, as Kutaisi International Airport is also accessible from the Hungarian capital.
Brexit does not seem to have discouraged airlines from operating to Budapest from Great Britain, or perhaps it is one of the reasons why numerous new flights are being launched. The 2018/19 winter schedule will include no less than four new services to the British Isles. easyJet will fly to London Southend Airport twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, and will also operate to Manchester on the same days. (Much to the delight of Hungarian Manchester United and Manchester City fans, no doubt.) Wizz Air will commute three times a week to Doncaster
Sheffield Airport; its purple and blue colored aircraft will fly the route on the first, third and fifth day of the week. Another new service that is likely to be popular with passengers is the flight by LOT Polish Airlines from Budapest to London City Airport, which will commute to the City of London every morning and evening from Monday to Saturday, i.e. twelve times a week.
The carrier will use Brazilian-made, two-engine Embraer aircraft on the route, which are suitable for the short, 1508-meter runway of London City Airport, built on the river Thames. For the benefit of holidaymakers, Wizz Air will also launch a new flight to Ovda Airport in Israel, within easy reach of Eilat, a popular and safe destination on the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula, in the Gulf of Aqaba, for Hungarian tourists seeking sunshine during the winter. Ryanair will operate twice a week (on Wednesdays and Sundays) to the Jordanian capital – Amman from 28 October. Two days later, the Irish carrier will also add the port city of Marseilles to its route network, with aircraft due to depart on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Some airlines have already also announced new flights for next summer as well. Ryanair has taken the lead in this respect; the Irish ultra-low cost carrier has said it will add no less than four new services. It will fly twice a week from Budapest to the Irish city of Cork, also twice a week to Cagliari, on the island of Sardinia, and Bari in Southern Italy, on the Adriatic Sea. From May 2019, its route network will include Seville in Spain, also twice a week. Additionally, Transavia France will make Nantes, located on the Loire estuary, accessible for Hungarian travelers, twice a week.

Besides Europe, we are primarily focusing on the huge tourism potential in the Asian region, and on formulating the most convenient schedule possible for passengers arriving in and departing from Budapest. We are happy to acknowledge that more and more European cities and regions are becoming accessible for our passengers, with direct flights,” commented Balázs Bogáts, head of airline development for Budapest Airport, in the wake of the finalization of the 2018-19 winter schedule.
