Maastricht Aachen Airport welcomes Avianca Cargo
Freight at Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) is receiving a new boost. Starting in October, the Colombian airline Avianca Cargo will fly twice a week to and from the Limburg airport. These new routes will connect Quito, Miami, Maastricht, and Zaragoza, further increasing the airport's (air)freight volume.
The new connections will bring flowers from South America to Europe and primarily transport fashion items from Maastricht, including clothing for well-known fashion chains. Avianca will operate an Airbus A330 aircraft with a maximum payload of 61 tons.
With the arrival of Avianca Cargo, MAA is strengthening its position as the second-largest cargo airport in the Netherlands. Earlier this year, Turkish Cargo and Emirates SkyCargo expanded their operations in Maastricht, and the airport welcomed My Freighter. Thanks to these developments, MAA achieved strong growth in cargo volumes this year. In the first eight months, MAA increased its volume by 25% compared to 2024.
Dean Boljuncic, Head of Commercial Development: “We are proud that, after My Freighter, Avianca Cargo has now also found MAA. With each new route, we are increasing our airport's international connectivity. Our team is ready to introduce Avianca to the excellent handling for which Maastricht Aachen Airport is known.”
Diogo Elias, CEO Avianca Cargo: “At Avianca Cargo, we are excited to further expand our internationalization strategy, strengthen our presence in new markets, and optimize our global network, which currently connects more than 350 destinations. In October 2025, we will begin transporting cargo from Latin America to Maastricht, a key hub, and we look forward to further growth at this strategic hub.”
