Global logistics service provider Yusen Logistics has opened its first branch in Switzerland near Zurich Airport, bringing to a total of 78 the number of offices in Europe.

The new outpost will offer air and ocean freight services, land transportation and customs clearance, according to Air Cargo World.

Ian Veitch, chief regional officer, Yusen Logistics Europe explained that the expansion in Switzerland "represents an important strategic step for us." He noted that the Swiss location would increase Yusen's global network and decrease transit time.

The Japan-based freight forwarder has also taken steps to increase its portfolio in the EU region, adding IATA's CEIV-Pharma certification at its Amsterdam Schiphol Airport location last November in a bid to capture high-value pharma shipments moving between the EU, the US and Asian markets.
