Chinese terminal operator Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) has been selected to operate the new Haifa Bay port in Israel when it launches early next decade, authorities report.

Bayport terminal is expected to put into full operation in 2021. SIPG will be responsible for construction of the facilities at the back terminal, deployment and installation of the equipment and daily running and operation of the terminal. With a total 1,500 meters of quay length, a 78ha surface and a 17.3 meters draft, Bayport new terminal will handle the designed annual container throughput of 1.86 million TEU.

The successful bidding renders SIPG one of the global terminal operators networking and helps improve the competitive edge in its core business and enhance the strategic cooperation with international ports and shipping liners. On the other hand, this project is one of the substantive steps to respond to the national One Belt and One Road strategy.
