Rhenus has enhanced its business activities in the Benelux region by initially taking over 80 percent of the Belgian logistics company, Wijnands Bulk Care, at the beginning of October 2021. Rhenus can now boost its presence in the Benelux market by integrating the Wijnands business sites into its network.

Rhenus and Wijnands will mainly transport bulk goods and break bulk cargo in future. Rhenus’ existing business operations in this region will not least be complemented by the experience that Wijnands has gained here during several decades.

“Alongside its enormous regional expertise, Wijnands primarily contributes its vehicles, which are equipped with a unique refrigeration and tipper body facility,” says Thomas Maassen, Managing Director of Rhenus Transport, explaining the development. This truck equipment, which is unparalleled in the market, guarantees a special product mix in this segment.

Wijnands Bulk Care, which was originally founded in 1934, mainly provides transport services within western Europe from its headquarters in the Belgian town of Lanaken. The management team centred around Harold Wijnands will be complemented by Sascha Hähnke, Managing Director of Rhenus Transport. In the meantime, Miranda Frederiks-Wijnands is withdrawing from the company’s management.

“We believe that Wijnands is an ideal partner and will add a great deal to the variety of logistics services that we provide in the Benelux region,” Sascha Hähnke emphasises. Those selling their shares are also very upbeat. “The sale to the Rhenus Group is a benefit for the corporate group from a strategic point of view and will therefore significantly strengthen our market position in future,” Harold Wijnands explains.
