PSA opens new box terminal at Zeebrugge

The PSA ZIP (Zeebrugge International Port) Container Terminal in Belgium was officially opened recently with the berthing of a deep sea container vessel of Evergreen Shipping Line.

The ultramodern terminal, operated by PSA, is situated at the entrance to the Port of Zeebrugge, on the north side of the Albert II Dock. It has been designed as a hub for mega vessels of up to 22,000 TEUs. Its berths have a draught of 17 metres and its quay cranes, reaching across 24 rows of containers, are among the largest in Europe.

PSA Zeebrugge also operates the Container Handling Zeebrugge Terminal (a joint venture with CMA CGM) and the ZIP Multipurpose Terminal. The Evergreen vessel, the Ever Laden, was the first in the new weekly CEM/ANN service to berth at the ZIP terminal. Evergreen contributes 8 vessels and Hanjin 2 to this service, with Cosco, "K" Line, Yang Ming and CMA CGM taking slots.

The service calls at Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Colombo, Rotterdam, Felixstowe, Hamburg, Zeebrugge, Algeciras, Colombo, Tanjung Pelepas, Hong Kong, Qingdao. The call at Algeciras provides a connection to West Africa and the Colombo call allows fast transits to India and Pakistan, stressed a release.
