The large bulk carrier "FRIENDSHIP" operated by our company conducted a test navigation using biofuel for freight transportation to Anglo American plc, a global mining company. This is the fourth test cruise on biofuels by the Group and the second collaboration with Anglo American plc.

Biofuel is a fuel that is used as a raw material for organic resources (biomass) derived from renewable organisms, and is attracting attention as a next-generation fuel with a low environmental load because carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions when burned are considered to be virtually zero. It has been.

The vessel "FRIENDSHIP" was refueled with biofuel in the port waters of the Port of Singapore in January 2022 with the cooperation of Total Energy's Marine Fuels, the ship fuel supply division of Total Energy. Used for the route to Sardana Bay, South Africa and the route from Sardana Bay to the Port of Singapore.

The Group has set a long-term goal of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the ocean shipping business as "achieving net zero emissions by 2050," and is an effective marine fuel alternative to heavy oil. Positioned as one of the above, we are actively conducting test navigation.

The Group announced the "NYK Group ESG Story" on February 3, 2021, which aims to further accelerate the integration of ESG into its management strategy, and achieved the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). We are promoting activities that contribute to. In order to strongly promote ESG management of the Group, we will continue to actively introduce next-generation fuels with low environmental impact, such as biofuels, and promote new value creation as a "Sustainable Solution Provider".
