Norway's low-cost carrier, Norwegian Air Shuttle (Norwegian) has started air freight services from Oakland International Airport to Oslo-Gardermoen and Stockholm-Arlanda, reports Air Cargo World.

Flights to Oslo depart Oakland on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 18:45 hrs and flights to Stockholm depart Oakland on Tuesdays and Fridays at 19:30. Norwegian offers drop off at Oakland, where bonded, cold storage a CFS is located.

All types of general and perishable cargo are accepted with the exception of dangerous goods, live animals, human remains, and outsized pieces, the airline said, adding that a Boeing 787 Dreamliner is being deployed out.

"The opening of Norwegian Cargo's new facility at Oakland and faster cargo shipment to Norway and Sweden is a significant business development for the area," said Deborah Ale Flint, director of aviation for the Port of Oakland.

"We look forward to the export and import of goods to and from Scandinavia, especially perishables like salmon and crab that can be accommodated in the cold storage capable facility prior to making its way throughout the region," she said.(Source: Shipping Gazette)
