Icelandair to add flights to New York Newark Airport
Icelandair is pleased to announce it will begin scheduled flights to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on October 28, 2013.
Icelandair has served the New York City area for over 60 years with flights to John F. Kennedy International (JFK) and will continue to do so. The Newark service is intended to supplement the JFK flights and will operate four times weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Birkir Holm Gudnason, CEO of Icelandair said "We have recently managed to grow our New York traffic during the winter months, increasing the frequency to 10 flights per week. In fact, three days of the week we had two flights taking off within minutes of each other. With the addition of our Newark service we will be able to transfer some of this traffic to another airport which will result in more choice, added flexibility and increased options for flight connections for our passengers.
Newark will be the 11th Icelandair gateway in North America and the 36th destination within the Icelandair global route network. "These flights will both support our connecting flights across the Atlantic and the growing winter tourism industry in Iceland, Gudnason added.
The new service will connect with flights to and from Icelandair's gateways in Europe including cities like London, Paris and Copenhagen.
The 2013 schedule is the largest in Icelandair's 76 year history and is 15% larger than last year. Newark is the fourth destination that has been introduced this year joining Anchorage, Alaska, St. Petersburg, Russia and Zurich, Switzerland.
