Icelandair starts flying to Alaska
Icelandair started flying to its 10th destination in North America when flight FI679 to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) took off. Icelandair will fly twice weekly from Reykjavik (KEF) to Anchorage, Alaska throughout the summer.
Because of Iceland's geographical location and our efficient route network, we are able to offer viable and convenient flights between Alaska and Europe. By connecting via our hub at Keflavik Airport, passengers can shorten their travel duration by 3 hours or more. Says Birkir Hólm Guðnason, CEO of Icelandair.

Icelandair has for many years offered passengers the popular option of booking an optional stopover in Iceland on their way to or from North America at no additional airfare. Alaska and Iceland have a lot in common such as unspoiled nature and rich culture so I'm sure that customers who want to experience both destinations will add a few nights in Iceland on their way. While the new route saves travel time from Europe, it also gives passengers the opportunity to re-live 50 minutes of their day as the flight takes off 17:10 in Iceland but arrives 16:20 locally. This is due to the flight path being so northerly. We call it a little bit of time travelling adds Hjorvar.
