HPC to upgrade Sudan container terminal
HPC Hamburg Port Consulting, the logistics consultancy providing management consulting and software solutions for ports, sea and inland terminals as well as the intermodal rail sector, was commissioned by the Sudanese Ministry of Transport on behalf of the Sea Ports Corporation of Sudan (SPC) to improve terminal operations of the South Port Container Terminal (SPCT) in Port Sudan to upgrade its performance and increase the competitiveness in the region.
The goal of the planned port development programme for Sudan’s only international container terminal is a significant reduction of vessel waiting times and higher productivity of cargo handling equipment and terminal operations.
HPC consultants focus on generating greater efficiency of operational and administrational processes to speed up ship handling processes. Furthermore, in close cooperation with SPC, HPC will pave the way for a planned maintenance system and efficient repair services to ensure higher equipment productivity and reduce operational costs. Besides higher terminal efficiency, the programme emphasises comprehensive training in health, safety, security, and the environment.
Commented Minister of Transport, H.E. Mergani Musa Hamad: “For our country, SPCT is the gateway for international trade and a major employer for the region of Port Sudan. We, therefore, strive for a modern, effective container terminal that will be a growth engine for the city and our entire country. Together we will be able to shape SPCT into a resilient and effective backbone of Sudan’s trade.”

We welcome the endeavour to develop the Port of Sudan as a gateway to international maritime trade and a powerful economic engine.“

The programme formed is based on a thorough analysis of the current assets and infrastructure on-site. All agreed activities will be developed and executed together with the terminal management. SPC and HPC share a long-term history. Both the Minster and HPC staff expressed the desire to rebuild this long-term relationship of HPC supporting the transport industry in Sudan to grow over the next years together, in this and other projects to be mutually identified.

We strive to accomplish this by establishing a safety culture supported by a comprehensive training-on-job programme”, adds Prieser.
In its 45 years of excellence, HPC has carried out approximately 1,700 projects for ports or terminals worldwide, including 630 optimisation projects and 250 training projects.
