Green Marine and Smart Freight Centre partner to advance maritime decarbonization

Green Marine and Smart Freight Centre (SFC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalizing their collaboration and complementary efforts to advance environmental sustainability.

The MoU will serve as a framework for guiding the global logistics and maritime industries in tracking and reducing GHG emissions to reach net zero by 2050 or earlier.

“Smart Freight Centre’s goal is to guide the global logistics industry in tracking and reducing the industry’s GHG emissions by one billion tonnes by 2030 and to reach zero emissions by 2050 or earlier. Green Marine's presence in North America and Europe encompasses a diverse array of maritime enterprises, including ports, Seaway corporations, ship owners, terminals, and shipyards. We can leverage each other’s expertise and market knowledge to further accelerate the decarbonization of the maritime sector. This strategic expansion creates significant opportunities for collaboration and partnership to advance environmental initiatives and drive progress towards SFC's emission reduction targets.” said Senior Program Manager, Francisco Hilger.

“This agreement is another example of Smart Freight Centre collaborating with its global partners to quantify impacts, identify solutions, and advocate logistics decarbonization strategies.”

Through their partnership, Green Marine and Smart Freight Centre will promote each other’s efforts and successes. They will also increase awareness of their respective programs to the relevant networks, sharing information with potential members to further strengthen both organizations and their shared missions.

"This agreement is timely with the latest developments of our GHG criteria to guide our participants towards decarbonization," added David Bolduc, Green Marine’s president. “There are also additional areas of collaboration through SFC’s Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative (SRTI) and Green Marine’s ship recycling performance indicator."
