Fedex Express has started operations at its new 39,500-square metre North Pacific regional hub located at Kansai International Airport in Osaka.

The new facility, whose roof is covered with solar panels, can sort up to 9,000 packages per hour. It serves as a consolidation and transshipment point for shipments between Asia and the US, linking Asia Pacific, the Americas and Europe.

"Our North Pacific regional hub not only provides us with greater operational flexibility, but also allows us to offer our customers in Japan and the Asia Pacific access to regional and global trade opportunities through our strong operational network," said Asia Pacific president David Cunningham.

The new facility incorporates offices, cargo sheds, in-house customs, ramp operations, cargo sorting and transshipment capability, with a focus on the healthcare industry with its freezers and fridges. (Source: Shipping Gazette)
