FedEx launches first direct flight between Taiwan and South Korea
Federal Express Corporation, one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, announced the launch of its first direct flight connecting Taiwan and South Korea. This new flight significantly enhances service and capacity between the two markets, providing efficient operational experience for import and export traders, particularly boosting trade in high-tech industries.
The direct flight operates seven times a week, connecting Taiwan through the FedEx Transshipment Center at Taoyuan International Airport with South Korea via the FedEx Incheon Gateway at Incheon International Airport. This new flight is expected to boost Taiwan’s import and export activities, offering greater flexibility and reliability in logistics transportation and further enhancing Taiwan’s pivotal role in the global trade landscape.
“This inaugural direct flight between Taiwan and South Korea is a significant milestone in our operations and underscores our commitment to strengthening connections within the Asia-Pacific region,” said Paul Sousa, managing director of FedEx Taiwan. “By launching this new flight, we are optimizing our air network and enhancing the capacity and reliability of logistics services, empowering Taiwanese businesses to access new markets, drive innovation, and strengthen their global competitive edge. It underscores our dedication to supporting Taiwan’s strategic position in international trade.”
Trade between Taiwan and South Korea has experienced substantial growth in recent years, driven by advancements in technology and electronics. According to data from Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, South Korea has become one of Taiwan’s major trading partners, significantly contributing to Taiwan’s total exports. High-tech products, particularly semiconductors and electronic components, are central to these exports. Statistical data from January 2025 shows that South Korea’s share of semiconductor exports to Taiwan increased from 6.4% in 2020 to 14.5% in 2024[2]. The new flight is expected to further enhance trade and strengthen economic ties between the two markets.
This new flight is part of the company’s on-going efforts to strengthen and optimize its global air network. In December 2024, FedEx introduced a new flight strengthening connectivity between Asia Pacific, India, and Europe. In April 2025, FedEx launched its first direct flight from Singapore to Anchorage, U.S., strengthening connectivity between Southeast Asia and major U.S. markets. These initiatives demonstrate FedEx’s keen insight into the global market and strategic planning, providing strong support for the efficient circulation of global trade.
