Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has entrusted DB Schenker with the management of its spare parts logistics in the Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) region, as part of a long-term six-year contract.

Embraer has chosen DB Schenker as an expert partner well recognised for implementing innovative solutions focused on optimizing the aeronautical supply chain.

"By outsourcing the management of the entire spare parts logistics of our EMEA sites to DB Schenker, we will gain flexibility, provide a higher quality of service to our customers and will be able to effectively manage our strong growth in the years to come," commented Luiz Hamilton Lima, Embraer's Vice-President Customer Support Commercial Aviation EMEA.

Ideally located just a few kilometres from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, Europe's second largest airport, DB Schenker's logistics hub in Mitry Mory will manage tens of thousands of spare part items. The newly 6,000 square meter hub is located next to the existing DB Schenker site and will be dedicated specifically to the aeronautics industry.

The scope of the contract includes the handling of standard spare parts, as well as sensitive and high-volume lines. High-density storage and elevated order picking systems will help DB Schenker deliver the productivity gains and increased flexibility sought by Embraer. Transparency and a continuous improvement plan were also part of Embraer's selection criteria.

DB Schenker also handles the transport operations, including those for emergency situations, the so-called AOG (Aircraft On Ground) incidents, via its global network of 40 AOG desks and its teams of experts being operational 24/7.

The service is designed to support future changes in volumes, aligned to the future development of the activity and Embraer's growing presence in the European market.

"This contract reflects DB Schenker's stated ambition to ensure maximum logistics support for Embraer's parts and equipment, and to achieve the best operating conditions for Embraer's supply chain in terms of quality. That's the commitment made by DB Schenker's contract logistics and aerospace teams," underlined Robert Plent, Head of Contract Logistics / Supply Chain Management, Region Europe West, DB Schenker Logistics.
