DCT Gda?sk, the largest container terminal in the Baltic Sea, is celebrating another milestone in its development. Since its opening in 2007, the terminal has handled 15 million TEU (20-foot containers), which means that DCT Gdansk is a true Baltic hub.

Thanks to a 17-meter-deep quay, world-class efficiency and record numbers of transhipped containers, DCT Gda?sk is the only deepwater terminal in the Baltic Sea that handles the largest container ships in the world. The dynamic development of the terminal is possible thanks to continuous investments in infrastructure and equipment, as well as very high efficiency of the facility. In 2019, DCT Gda?sk broke the annual record, reloading over 2 million TEU.

On April 8, 2021, DCT Gdansk handled the 15 million TEU.

- Handling 15 million TEU since the terminal's commencement of operations in 2007 is a great achievement and a great success for our employees. If we made a path out of 15 million TEU, we could go around the Earth more than twice. However, it is important to us that each of these 15 million TEUs is a customer who has benefited from our services. This proves the continuous support and faith of customers at DCT Gda?sk - thanks to this we have become a Baltic hub, says Cameron Thorpe, General Director of DCT Gda?sk SA

The 15 millionth container belonged to COSCO Shipping and was loaded on board COSCO Shipping Galaxy, one of the largest ships in the world. COSCO Shipping Galaxy is 400 meters long and has a capacity of 21,000. TEU. The ship sails as part of the OCEAN Shipping Alliance service, which provides a weekly connection between the ports of Korea, China and Singapore with Gda?sk.

- Last year, the pandemic caused turbulence in the entire global transport and logistics industry. However, we are satisfied with the year-on-year increase in the number of full containers in import and export. We are also very pleased with the 9 percent increase in cargo handling in the first quarter, with volumes exceeding our best results from a record 2019, adds Cameron Thorpe.

DCT Gda?sk continues large investment programs, which include, inter alia, extension of the railway siding (enlarging it from 4 to 7 tracks - each 750 m long). This investment fits perfectly into the celebration of the European Year of Railways. DCT Gda?sk is already the largest railway transhipment point in Poland and one of the 10 largest port railway terminals in Europe. Thanks to the increase in capacity, DCT will join the top five. Other investments are also being prepared to strengthen DCT Gdansk's position for the development of regional trade and further integration with extensive global supply chains.
