Container handling at Colombo port grew 15.6 pc in H1 2018
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has said that container handling at Colombo port grew 15.6 per cent in the first half of 2018 which was the fastest in the world, according to an international ranking.
The Authority said that Alphaliner has ranked Colombo as the fastest growing port ahead of Singapore, Guangzhou and Antwerp.
He added that recently the three terminal operators at the port, Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) under SLPA, South Asia Gateway Terminal (SAGT) and Colombo International Container Terminal, signed a MoU to operate collectively to promote the port, which he expected to minimise the total turnaround time of container vessels, reports said.
