Barbican Insurance Group  announced the appointment of Michael McGeown as a marine liability underwriter, with immediate effect. He will report to Paul Brown, business group leader, marine insurance.

Mr. McGeown joins Barbican from Osprey Underwriting Agency, where he has worked for the last nine years, most recently as a marine underwriter. His 16-year insurance career has spanned both broking and underwriting, as well as the insurance and reinsurance sectors. He was previously a reinsurance broker at Cameron Richard Smith Insurance Services, before joining the ReSpecialty Marine & Energy department at Aon in 2003. During his career, he has also worked a deputy underwriter at Charles Taylor Consulting for the Standard Bermuda P&I Club.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Brown said: "At Barbican, we are fortunate to have a very experienced marine team writing across a diverse book which spans hull, cargo and liability. Michael is a fantastic addition to our ranks given that he is a highly respected underwriter in the marine liability sector and also given the diversity of expertise he brings which bridges both underwriting and broking.”

Mr. McGeown added: “I am delighted to be joining the marine team at Barbican. They are well respected in the market which is clearly demonstrated by the long-term nature of many of their client relationships. They have built a secure and expansive global book of business and I am eager to play my part in their ongoing success.”
